Round or Square Cake: Which Makes More? My Experience and Tips!

Hello confectionery lovers! If you're like me and love to venture into the kitchen, you've probably come across this question: when baking a cake, is it better to choose a round or square shape?

I went through this same uncertainty, and today I'm going to share with you my experience and some tips that can help you in your decision.

My Boleira Journey: A Difficult Choice

Let's start with the round shape. When I decided to make a cake for a special occasion, I opted for the classic 20 cm round cake tin. The final appearance of the cake was amazing!

The even layers added a professional touch, and that "waterfall" effect of the icing running down the sides was mouthwatering.

On the other hand, when I decided to make a square cake for afternoon tea, the practicality surprised me.

Cutting it into pieces was much simpler, and I didn't have to worry about getting everything perfectly level as with a round cake.

The Key Point: Yield and Exploitation

Here's what you need to consider: throughput and leverage. In my experience, the round cake yields a little more when it comes to quantity.

The curved edges can trick the eye a bit and make it look like there's more cake than there is in a similarly sized square shape.

Tips for Every Choice:

  • Round Shape: If you are preparing for a special event and want to impress with your presentation, the round shape is a great choice. Remember to grease the curved sides of the mold well to make it easier to remove the cake after baking.

  • Square Shape: For more relaxed occasions or when practicality is a priority, the square shape could be the winner. Tip: Opt for a mold with a removable bottom to make removing the cake even easier.

Conclusion: Beauty Is in Sharing!

Ultimately, choosing between a round or square cake depends on what you value more: the sophisticated appearance of the round or the practicality of the square.

Both options have their merits and are delicious either way!

Whether you're looking for an elegant look or a simpler way to serve, I hope my experiences and tips can help.

Now, get your hands dirty and let's make an amazing cake! If you liked the tips, be sure to share them with your confectioner friends.

After all, the real magic is in sharing flavors and sweet moments together.
